a superb impression, as issued in the Brucke portfolioPrinted in black, green and red, on firm wove paper, with wide margins, the full sheet, very pale light-staining and one or two handling creases in the margins, generally in very good conditionThis woodcut was the principal work included in the sixth Brücke portfolio. By 1910-1911 there were sixty eight passive (non artist) members of the Künstlergruppe Brücke, who would have received the Jahresmappe on subscription..Fränzi and her older sister Marcella were the favoured models of the Brücke group at this time. Their slim pre-pubescent looks harmonise with the artists style of painting elongated forms and sharp angles. The two models spent the summer on the Moritzburg lakes outside Dresden during the summer of 1910 where the Brücke artists painted some of their most celebrated outdoor scenes. This woodcut was made in the autumn of 1910. It has become an icon of German Expressionist art.
